Summer may be winding down, but here at Secret City Scavenger Hunts, August has been anything but quiet.
Over the past month, we’ve been sending teams out on scavenger hunt adventures all across New York City — from Central Park and Greenwich Village to Grand Central Terminal, Rockefeller Center, the Met, the American Museum of Natural History, Williamsburg, SoHo, Lower Manhattan and the Meatpacking District.
And what a collection of groups we’ve had.
This month we’ve welcomed teams from Google, Meta, iHeartMedia, SS&C Technologies, Axis Capital, Clear Street, Makeup by Mario, Simpson Thacher, the American Arbitration Association, Natilik, Altana AI, Alkali and more.
And it hasn’t just been corporate team building. We’ve hosted friends and families, a 40th birthday celebration in Central Park, an engagement party at the American Museum of Natural History, and groups simply looking for a fun and different way to experience New York City together.
The Best Team Outings for Fall in NYC
August isn’t over yet, but if you’re responsible for planning a company outing or team-building event this fall, now is the time to get it on the calendar.
September and October are two of the best months for outdoor team building in NYC. The summer heat fades, the city comes back to life after vacation season, and there’s still time to get your last licks of outdoor action before winter arrives.
Here are two of our favorite fall scavenger hunts:
Central Park Scavenger Hunt
It’s hard to beat Central Park in the fall.
Teams race through the park following clues, solving puzzles and searching for hidden details among its statues, pathways, arches and landmarks — encountering everything from Alice in Wonderland to music history, literary landmarks and secrets hiding in plain sight.
It’s active, competitive and collaborative, with one of the most beautiful game boards in New York City.
Legends of the Village
Looking for something a little spookier for October?
Our Legends of the Village scavenger hunt explores the East and West Village and some of New York City’s strangest and darkest history.
Teams encounter haunted landmarks, cemeteries and tombs, ghost stories and historic disasters — mixed in with punk rock, artists, revolutionaries and plenty of classic New York weirdness.
That makes Legends of the Village an especially fun choice for a Halloween office outing or October team-building event in NYC.
Costumes are optional.

Secret City scavenger hunts are private, fully hosted team competitions that get people out of the office, working together and experiencing New York City in a completely different way.
And when the weather eventually sends everyone indoors, we have hunts at Grand Central Terminal, the Met, the American Museum of Natural History and Chelsea Market too.
So enjoy the rest of August. But if you’re thinking about a September, October or November company outing, now is a great time to get your team on the calendar.
Summer may be winding down.
But there’s plenty more to come.
